samsung tv subtitles

I've a samsung 6000d tv, and i'm unable to get SRT subtitles to work.
There are two cases of subtitles that work.
1. transcoding - but then ff/re capabilities are gone.
2. SMI - smi subtitles work fine most of the time. (i can convert the srt to smi and it works out of the box)

any ideas?

What about now ? Do you still use ps3media with subtitled movie and your samsung tv ? I searched on the web a long time to find a solution and there no better than your point 2. Which soft to convert srt to smi ?
