Discuss alternative media renderers (not PS3) supported by PS3 Media Server (e.g. Xbox 360, TVs &c.)

Bravia KDL-55XH820

Postby phileas » Sat Apr 14, 2012 10:55 am

Im trying to set up my Sony Bravia (KDL-55XH820) to stream video from my iMac.
I can play avi files with divx codex with the supplied BraviaEX.conf, but the screen stays black when playing avi files with h264 encoding. I added h264 support to the avi container config:
Supported = f:avi|divx v:mp4|divx|mjpeg|h264 a:mp3|lpcm|mpa|ac3 m:video/x-divx qpel:no gmc:0

no luck.

can anyone help please?

thank you.

Hi Phileas

As I know Sony does not provide support for h264 with their TVs. So you can't play this video with KDL-55XH820. For this purpose you need some externel player with h264 support.

Or you can user transcoding feature of your media server

So the problem is in container I guess. My bravia doesn't work with mkv for example, but it plays m2ts and avi. Maybe you can provide the example media file or information about it (via Mediainfo for example)

h264/AVC video codec is supported into mp4 and mpegts (m2ts) container. (This is the format that serviio used to transcode not supported format)

Lately I have discovered interesting thing: mkv with subtitles are not supported (I can't see this files in Bravia browse window). Maybe this is the problem.

Nevertheless you need transcoding feature or find this file in a appropriate container

It's 55HX820 btw ;) And it should work, though PS3MS sometimes has a problem with Bravia tv's while Mezzmo and Serviio work fine (buffer problems).
