Hi, of course there's a good reason to recommend PMS 1.4 for Philips TVs. That is because versions after 1.4 do not show srt subtitles when playing mkv files on Philips and nothing about this issue appears in debug log.

I just played an .mkv movie on 1.71 and it was with subtitles but unfortunately in English and not Bulgarian, which I don't know how happened.

Now I uninstalled 1.71 downgraded to 1.40 but MEncode still freezes and noencoding doesn't show subs. I am losing hope ... more over PMS 1.40 is not working well with my Philips. It keeps crashing and having problems to detect it I'm going back to 1.71

EDIT: So I ran MEncode with External subtitles... then it freezed again for a couple of minutes, but I left it like that for a couple of minutes and the video started with subtitles in Bulgarian but from the 19th minute and I cannot use the navigation from the TV... below is what I saw on my computer...

Sorry Stanchev, but I really don't know what is happening. I did the config file and recommendations based in Philips 32PFL4017, that is working fine in my mother's room TV - in my room I have a Samsung and there's a Panasonic in the Hall, these are working fine with any PMS version and with Mezzmo media server. The problematic DLNA TV, in the subs field, is the Philips. BTW, Philips also works fine with Mezzmo, but no subs and my mother's English is very poor, so she needs subs and the only way I found to display subs in Philips TV is with PMS 1.4 and that config file I did.
I'm surprised you got subs with 1.71 version, are you sure these subs are from a SRT file?? If yes I think you should keep that version and, for last instance, rename the english srt file.

OK, did you check the debug log? It seems a lack of memory for java, try to reduce the transcode buffer maximum size, close unnecessary apps and, if these measures aren't enough, you may also edit pms.bat - look for this info in the forum, there are some treads about this issue.

Thanks Aurelio. This seems logical, but I checked the debug.log and it seems to me that it doesn't show any errors at all, just logs Transcode buffer maximum size is set to 400. I tried with 100, even 20 but it still freezes in the beginning and then after about 3-4 minutes starts the video from the middle... I don't have any problems with the files streamed without any transcoding, but the subs are not showing even if it shows [external subs] in the title

I know what you're feeling. Make it works becomes an obsession. I would start all over again with PMS 1.4 (because this one is working fine here, and the newer versions don't) and try to adjust config files for your TV. Once it starts to work with subs, but still freezing and/or skipping turn your focus to java memory and follow this message instructions: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16159&p=76738&hilit=memory+for+java#p76738

Now when the transcoding buffer is set to 20 I see this:



It is strange that it is showing negative amount

If anyone else here on this thread knows something that might help, please let me know!

EDIT Hey, everybody it works!!!! I have set transcode buffer max size to 600 and now it starts from the begining with just a couple of secs freeze from time to time and shows subs!!! Thanks a lot Aurelio for the help! And by the way I use 1.72 and I can stream subs with mkv Now I just have to deal with the freezes

Congratulations! I just tested 1.72 version and... yes! The subs problem was solved, but it doesn't play m2ts in Philips 32PFL4017 and it is freezing in some files, so I reinstalled the 1.4V that works like a charm for this TV model.

This is a new version of the config file for Philips 32PFL4017, and possibly other other models XXPFL4XX7. Now it supports some old Divx compressions (3.1) and solved the problem with few other mp4 files that weren't being played with the older version of this config.

Aurelio, is this config going to work with XXPFL3XX7? Are you using it with PMS 1.4?

Hi Stanchev, I just uploaded new config file in the post above, same name, but with one line correcting sound support for 6 ch aac, that tv doesn't support, so must be transcoded by the computer. I'm using with PMS 1.4 and working flawless, but I don't know if this config will work with 3xx7. Some files need too much processor, this old quadcore i5 750 sometimes loads more than 80% if its processor power (measured by the task manager) to transcode some titles.
