I've already given up. There is too much inconsistency with this phone and any video streaming app I have tried. Now VLC Direct PRO is being stubborn, so I have officially decided to stop wasting my time with this thing.

i didnt edit the android.conf in anyway. basically just to make things a little simpler u launch upnplay always not the viewer, upnplay will launch the viewer on its own. :) u just need to have one installed, mobo player is a really good one :)

Funny, it's like you stole my phone's playback capabilities. Was just gonna post to this thread about how literally NOTHING is working, unless the video is on my phone.

UPnPlay is connecting to PMS, as well other Upnp/DLNA apps are connecting, but literally NOTHING works.

Doesn't matter which video player I use, or which Upnp client I use.

Doing everything the way I was when things were HO-HUM, but now I want to toss this phone out the window. I can't tell if it's PMS or what or even how to tell, but jeeeeez I am getting frustrated.

Running 1.40.0 PMS. 'Stock" Android.conf . Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate.

I have even gone so far as to uninstall all external players and upnp/dlna type apps, and all data, then re-install the apps. Still nothing.

since ure having so much trouble, u can get a app called es file explorer, it lets u browse ure network shares over wifi and play them without upnp/dlna or pms. u will still need a good player i recommend mobo player. and u will need to share the folders over ure network.

Huh ?

I have ES File Explorer and I don't see any 'network shares'. I only see the files on the phone. I would be using it if I could see the 'shares' but I have never been able to view anything but what's on my SD card.

Nevermind. My frustration actually found it for me. :)

I was like "no it doesn't.....man I hate this phone." Kinda flicked the screen, and it rolled over to a screen saying "add server". Made sure to allow my Android thru my PC firewall, then scanned and VOILA !! There's all my shared folders. A little bit of messing around to get them all to show, including adjusting permissions on a few.

But it works fairly well, and if the file won't play over the wifi, you can copy directly to your card. With my 32 GB Micro SD coming soon, this is really handy. :D

Thanks Mazey !! Another great tool to add to the collection.

I have been communicating with the developer of VLC Direct Pro, and managed to get most of my files going again, but we are still trying to figure out why MP4's w/AAC audio won't play on the Android, but I can point the 'playback' at the PC and VLC handles it no problem, playing the same MP4's on my computer screen. If I can get MP4's working, then it nearly plays everything, minus M2TS files. I can actually use VLC to stream MKV files, w/DTS audio via the stock Android Video player, believe it or not. It's just the damn MP4's now.

Unfortunately, my Opera Unite shared folders are not working for him so I am trying to figure out how to share a certain 2.2GB MP4 file with him.

If someone would like to try and browse my server/file collection (well, part of it), and see if they can see the folders, please PM me and I can send a link. Lots of files to choose from, if you can see them. You don't have to download anything if you don't want, I just want to see if the folders are accessible to others. Testing by using my "data network" connection lets me into Opera Unite, but the dev of the VLC app just can't get in. :?

I actually got my 32 GB MicroSD w/adapter *new* in the wrapper, off eBay.ca for $47 Canadian with shipping to my door. It was messing up at first and thought I got a bunk one, but once I gave it a good format/wipe, it seems to be working better.

Time will be the test on this card though. I have heard of people having issues with 'cheaper' ones, so we'll see I guess.

PS.... that ES line of apps is freakin' awesome. Seriously, if you hadn't told me that I could see network shares, I never would have looked into it. All other file sharing/viewing/downloading apps have some weird quirk, or you need to use a web browser, or Bluetooth FTP which can be slow etc.

ES-File Explorer is THE SH*T ! The functionality is amazing and it has a nice interface......a winning combo. You can see, and rename/reorder your shares, delete files within them if you have the proper permissions set. FTP server access, net server access. Freakin' amazing app 8-) Other than the most HD of files, I can direct play them with no transcoding. MXPlayer takes care of the HD MKV w/DTS files.

I VPN'd from my buddy's house, directly into my LAN with ES-FE. Of course a bit slower over the VPN vs. within my home network, but very cool, and it connected and populated folders quickly.

I haven't even gotten fully into the ES line of apps yet, but very, very cool. 8-)

I wish this was a more 'universal' media serving forum so we could have a section for cool apps and tech stuff, and other ideas people have. I have a list of great apps for all kinds of streaming to and from different devices, and ES-File Explorer is a direct challenger for the throne ;)

I have aPP Brain if anyone wants to share apps (again I run Android). PM me if so.

I don't know. One dude tried talking about the T.O.S. agreement with the PS3 and his thread lasted all of two minutes before getting locked.......LOL. Maybe if we just keep this Android devices thread alive, and continue posting here, we may scoot under the radar.

But yeah, Mazey, ES File Explorer is definitely near the top of the list for favorite apps now. One of only a handful that reside on my front page of my phone. And I never would have found it if you hadn't 'reminded' me of it, and to check it out. I just thought it was another mediocre file explorer. Boy was I wrong !

I just can't believe the whole line of ES apps are free. Great functionality.
