i transcode everything.. i dont have any 1080p just 720 stuff. so 5,1,1 is fine.. it works flawlessly so no point changing it. if i were to transcode 1080p and it stuttered i can simply change it to 5,1,2. it never stuttered the 720 stuff with bandwidth limit set to 48 (same as tv max speed) when it was 0 some stuff occasionally stuttered that was my fix, i then changed it from 1,1,2 to 1,1,1 heh cuz i found it so good. i just tried 5,1,2 and i notice a a difference in quality, 5,1,1 is alot better atleast on my bravia, so until i actually get a stutter problem ill leave it on 5,1,1 i guess it depends on ure renderer my bravia can handle it. :)

Hi

I'm wondering what the status is to get PMS working with VLC again (0.98a)? It is still broken right (in latest version of PMS)?

Some audio or webstreams work via VLC (for instance .asx streams such as this one "http://bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r1.asx") but not via PMS.

There are some workarounds in PMS for .asx files but I really just want VLC to work with PMS..

Pls let me know...:)

PMS supports recent VLCs but recent VLCs don't work with PMS due to outstanding VLC bugs. As I hinted earlier, you'll have to wait if you want a non-hacky solution.

Lets answer his question shall we?

- Yes you can stream 1080p.

(Normally try something first before posting - I bet it goes faster. You even have a "FAQ/help" tab in the PMS which mention this - It being CPU/network limited bla bla bla)

To actually answer your question, there is no "absolut bedst setting". There are many ways to achieve comparable output video, and which one will work best depends on your setup. That includes which renderer (most can't handle a vqmin of 1, although it looks like bravia's can), your LAN network (if limited, try increasing the keyint to increase the load on the CPU and decrease bandwidth), and your CPU (if limited, decrease the keyint). These are just examples of how you can change the settings, and there are plenty of recommendations from users about what works for them and what they think works best (eg viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4930)
But if you're really that concerned about "quality", you can go check the MPlayer/MEncoder FAQs for yourself, understand all of the available options and what they do, and then determine what works best for you.
