Getting patches into trunk?

What is the process for getting patches added into trunk? I've had a few issues/patches over the last few months that I would really like to see added into trunk, so I don't have to reapply them all the time, but as yet I've not seen any response to most the issues from the "official" developers. Alternatively, if there is no good way to get patches into trunk, what steps would I need to take to be a committer on the project?

Hi, Loki,
what I have been doing is submitting patches to the forum. Be specific on what is patched and the developers might have a look at it. I even got something merged into trunk.
