Capture other plugins streams

I would like to write a plugin the will also record web streams by other plugins.since it's annoying that you can't skip forward/backward in transcoded web streams, so I figured atleast have an offline copy where later you can view it as a regular file.
When implementing the method nowplaying, i'm unable to access the resource real input stream(usually a fifo file), or even the path to this temporary file.
Is there some way to access these fields?or find them somehow?
